I am often asked this kind of question(How to find suitable suppliers from China? How do I avoid scams and fraud when dealing with suppliers?)

The quality issues of Chinese-made products have been widely discussed on the internet in recent years. As a company operating in both Hong Kong and mainland China, our team would like to share some thoughts on this matter.

Background:

As the world’s biggest factory, the Chinese manufacturers have strong capabilities in personnel organization and cost control. Most of the manufacturing enterprises in China can quickly translate design drawings into production plans, and their speed and efficiency are very high as well.

However, due to the lax evaluation and issuance on production qualification from their local governments, the quality of products from each Chinese supplier varies greatly. Therefore, if you plan to purchase from China, you need to be careful in selecting suppliers.

Our suggestion:

Before looking for suppliers, you need to establish minimum requirements for product quality, qualifications, and service.

You should include production and export qualifications, as well as information on raw materials, components, equipment, packaging, and transportation in these requirements.

At this stage, you should pay attention to whether the supplier’s products have the qualifications to be exported to your country, such as whether the FDA has registered medical devices exported to the US.

Once you have established the standards, you can ask the supplier to provide a detailed list of information and try to exclude potential suppliers who do not meet the requirements.

After you have confirmed an appropriate supplier, you need to pay attention to the price of their products. Some manufacturers may give you unusually high or low prices on first contact, which are often not trustworthy.

The next step is to compare the supplier’s prices with those of suppliers in your country. If the supplier’s price is higher than your domestic price, you need to consider that the factors such as shipping time will result in higher operating costs to your company.

After you have confirmed the order with the supplier, the final step is to order a small number of samples.

Finally, if you have received satisfactory samples that meet your standards, and there are no obstacles during transportation, you can continue to order large quantities of products.
